* More lambs          * More meat
* Greater profits    * More milk

KYADAM EAST FRIESIAN STUD was founded in October 1997 with the purchase from Silverstream of a pure ram and 4 pure ewes.
We recently purchased 2 more rams (of different genetics) and 40 pure ewes, making our total 55 pure ewes.
Our 3 rams have the sires Blue 40, 133/96 and 5018/95 giving us diversified genetics.

  • A sheep breed which promises to revolutionize the prime lamb and sheep milk industries.
  • Derived from the Friesland/Ost Friesland area in the north of Holland and Germany, where the breed has been used:
    - pure, as a milking breed
    - as a crossing breed with other milking sheep breeds
-to improve fecundity and milk production in meat sheep breeds.
  • Initially imported into New Zealand in 1992, the breed has undergone rigorous quarantine procedures before being introduced to Australia - in 1996/97.
  • Appearance - white wool and white face, ears, and legs all clean of wool. Their most distinctive physical feature is a 'rat-tail', thin and free of wool.
  • Purebred features include:
-a high fertility rate of up to 230 percent
    -rapid lamb growth rates
-a large body size with higher meat yields and less fat cover
-'natural mulesing', with their breech area and tail free of wool resulting in lower maintenance
-high milk production of around 2 litres a day; the most productive milking sheep in the world
-moderate cut of long pure white wool, about 37 microns
-fast growing for early marketing and subsequent early cashflow
-flexibility of enterprise - milk, meat and fibre
    -lean carcase
  • Carcass scan results have shown favourable characteristics which include:
    -a large hindquarter
    -minimal fat = lean meat
    -solid eye muscle
  • The productive performance of the East Friesian breed enables larger numbers of well fed, early maturing lambs through the introduction of the East Friesian/Merino mother.
  • High fecundity and milking ability together with a large meaty body and quick growth rates, makes the East Friesian an ideal animal as a terminal sire for producing highly productive first cross ewes.
